The AMA Global Marketing SIG has been shaped by the vision and dedication of its past leaders. We honor the distinguished scholars who have served as Chair of the SIG since its founding in 1994.


Camille P. Schuster

Camille P. Schuster

Professor of Marketing, Cal State San Marcos | Chair 1994–1995 (Xavier University) and 2005–2007 (Cal State San Marcos)

Camille P. Schuster is Professor of Marketing at California State University San Marcos, where she specializes in international marketing, cross-cultural negotiation, and the influence of culture on managerial decision-making. A founding member of the Board of Directors of the AMA Global Marketing SIG in 1994, she served as the SIG’s first Chair from 1994 to 1995 and returned to the role from 2005 to 2007. She has also held the positions of International Liaison, Treasurer, Chair-Elect, and SIG historian, and has chaired numerous conference events. Her research focuses on cross-cultural negotiation and the impact of culture on marketing strategy. She is the author of Global Business: Planning for Sales and Negotiations, co-written with Michael Copeland of Procter & Gamble — widely regarded as a seminal contribution to cross-cultural negotiation — and Newer Insights into Cross-Cultural Marketing, with Phil Harris of Manchester Metropolitan University. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of International Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Global Marketing, and other outlets. As President of Global Interactions, she also consults internationally, having delivered training and lectures across Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.


Diana R. Lawson

Diana R. Lawson

Dean, Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University | Chair 1995–1997 (University of Maine)

Diana R. Lawson is Dean of the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University. She earned her Ph.D. (1993), M.B.A., and Master’s degree from Kent State University, and a bachelor’s degree from State University of New York College at Cortland. With extensive experience leading business programs and significant international practice, she is widely published on topics ranging from the value of a liberal arts education to gender dynamics in business negotiations and the design of international business curricula. Her research has appeared in the Journal of Financial Services Marketing, Marketing Education Review, International Business Review, Journal of Euromarketing, and Journal of Teaching in International Business. She is also the author of the textbook Communicating in Global Business Negotiations: A Geocentric Approach. She served as Chair of the AMA Global Marketing SIG from 1995 to 1997.


William J. Lundstrom

William J. Lundstrom

Professor Emeritus of Marketing and Business Strategy, Cleveland State University | Chair 1997–2001

William J. Lundstrom is a retired Professor of Marketing and Business Strategy at Cleveland State University’s Nance College of Business Administration. His scholarship spans foundational and evolving domains within marketing, with sustained focus on consumer behavior, advertising ethics, and relationship management. Earlier in his career, he developed scales to measure consumer discontent and conducted extensive empirical analyses of gender role portrayals in advertising. His scope later expanded into international marketing and pedagogical research, examining cross-cultural consumer behavior, global market expansion strategies, and the alignment of marketing curricula with industry needs. More recently, his work has addressed paradigm shifts in marketing strategy — including the evolution from brand equity to customer trust equity, the dynamics of electronic word-of-mouth, and the impact of interactive technologies on consumer decision-making. In 2008, he received a Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) grant to study MBA students’ attitudes toward the business community. He served as Chair of the AMA Global Marketing SIG from 1997 to 2001.


David A. Griffith

David A. Griffith

Hallie Vanderhider Chair in Business and Professor of Marketing, Texas A&M University | Chair 2001–2005 (Michigan State University)

David A. Griffith is the Hallie Vanderhider Chair in Business and Professor of Marketing at the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. He previously held the Iacocca Chair and chaired the Department of Marketing at Lehigh University (2012–2018), and earlier served as the John William Byington Endowed Chair in Global Marketing and Director of the Ph.D. Program at Michigan State University. He has also held appointments at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, and the University of Oklahoma. Recognized as a leading authority on marketing strategy, with expertise in inter-firm governance, global marketing, and innovation, his research has appeared in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Operations Management, among others. He was ranked first worldwide in international marketing publication output for 1995–2015 and was named a Thomson Reuters “Rising Star” in 2010. His honors include the 2019 Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award, the Hans B. Thorelli Award (2018, 2015), and the Excellence in Research Award (2018, 2014) from the AMA Global Marketing SIG. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Marketing (2008–2013) and as a member of the AMA’s Academic Council (2014–2017), and sits on several editorial review boards across international marketing and management.


Frank J. Franzak

Frank J. Franzak

Associate Professor of Marketing, Virginia Commonwealth University | Chair 2007–2009 and 2013–2015

Frank Franzak is Associate Professor of Marketing at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business, where he has been on the faculty since 1986 — including six years as Department Chair (2002–2008). Prior to VCU, he served on the faculty of the Boston College School of Management. At VCU, Frank serves as Curriculum Coordinator for the Executive MBA program and as Faculty Advisor for the Master of Science in Business with a Global Marketing Management concentration. From 2012 to 2015 he coordinated the VCU da Vinci Center’s Master of Product Innovation program. His applied work focuses on innovation and product launch, often delivered through student-led consulting projects with the Virginia Biosciences Commercialization Center, the VCU Office of Technology Transfer, and the international trade office of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. His service to the AMA Global Marketing SIG has been central to the community’s institutional development: Frank served two terms as Board Chair, from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2015.


Kate Gillespie

Kate Gillespie

Associate Professor of International Business and Marketing, University of Texas at Austin | Chair 2009–2011

Kate Gillespie is Associate Professor of International Business and Marketing at the University of Texas at Austin, where she joined the faculty in 1984. She earned a B.A. from Harvard University, an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from the London Business School — her dissertation winning first place in the Academy of International Business doctoral dissertation competition in 1983. She received the College of Business Administration Foundation Award for teaching excellence in 1988–1989. Her research interests lie in international marketing, international business-government relations, and business in developing countries, with publications in the Journal of International Business Studies, Columbia Journal of World Business, California Management Review, Management International Review, and The Middle East Journal, among others. She has also served as Associate Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and as Chair of the AMA Global Marketing SIG from 2009 to 2011.


Esra Gencturk

Esra Gençtürk

Rector Emerita, Özyeğin University | Chair 2011–2013

Esra Gençtürk served as Rector of Özyeğin University from 2014 to 2024. She earned a B.S. from the University of Southern California (1981) and her M.B.A. (1983) and Ph.D. in Marketing (1990) from the University of Minnesota. Before joining Özyeğin University in 2009 as Executive Director of the Sector Solutions Program, she held faculty positions in marketing and international business at the University of Texas at Austin (1989–1996) and Koç University (1996–2009), and later served as Vice-Rector at Özyeğin from 2011 to 2014. Her research interests include strategic marketing and competition strategies, distribution channel management, foreign market entry and penetration strategies, and research design. She has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of International Management, and Advances in International Marketing. She served as Vice-Chair of Communications for the AMA Global Marketing SIG from 2005 to 2010 and as Chair from 2011 to 2013.


Annie Peng Cui

Annie Peng Cui

Kmart Chair and Professor of Marketing, West Virginia University | Chair 2014–2017

Dr. Annie Peng Cui is the Kmart Chair and Professor of Marketing, and Chair of the Marketing Department at the John Chambers College of Business and Economics, West Virginia University. Her research centers on firms’ branding, pricing, and international marketing strategies, with publications in the Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Industrial Marketing Management, International Marketing Review, European Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Product and Brand Management, among others. She is also a co-author of International Marketing (11th ed.). She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice and the Journal of AI in Marketing, and chaired the AMA Global Marketing SIG from 2014 to 2017.
